This post is really long over due..(sorry). We actually watched 3:10 to Yuma a few weeks ago but I was just unable to find time to make a review about it. To tell you the truth, I sort of wanted the overwhelming feeling to pass since I definitely had tons of great things to say about it ~ from the actors to the acting, and from the storyline to how it was executed on film. I was afraid the post might go on and on and on with no hint of me ever stopping. (lol) ~_~

Here’s a rundown of all the things I loved (and hated??) about 3:10 to Yuma.

1) I loved the cast ~ kudos to the people who were responsible for putting together a bunch of talented actors!

2) I loved the storyline.

It may be as true to its Western roots as it can be ~ with all the gunslinging, mean-looking and implacable characters ~ but you would certainly learn a thing or two about honor, dignity and doing the right thing when no one else would. (naks!)

3) I loved the ending.

While watching the movie, we couldn’t help but make speculations about how it would end. Although Ben Wade (Russel Crowe) was undeniably the villain, I sometimes found myself rooting for him. In the end, everybody got what they deserved – except for Dan Evans (Christian Bale) who was shot to his death by Wade’s loyal sidekick Charlie (Ben Foster).

Still, it was all good. At least, he got the respect he so much wanted from his son, William (Logan Lerman). To top it off, Wade unflinchingly gunned downed his own men ~ take note: these were the same men who almost unwillingly, if not for Charlie’s “encouragement”, followed his captors’ trail all the way to Contention.

To sum it all up, the time I spent watching it was indeed time well spent. ~_~

HIGH POINT: Although it was a period piece, there wasn’t any moment in the whole film that bored me.

LOW POINT: As good as the movie may be, I still can’t deny the fact that it was a remake of a 1957 film of the same title. I don’t exactly hate “recycled” storylines, but wouldn’t it be nicer to watch an original? =(

Popcorn Rating

— I would have given it a 5 out of 5 rating, but I felt compelled to subtract half a bucket of popcorn because of the annoying LOW POINT. It really bothered me. =(

Anyway, so we went, we sat and we watched the movie. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed (ok, seriously, I was really disappointed). I can’t stop wondering who casted Hayden Christensen in the first place (hmmm…). I mean, it seems as if he was able to single-handedly ruin the entire film (at least, that’s what I think). I don’t know if people would agree with me on this but I think it would have been a lot more entertaining if the producers had chosen a REAL actor and not just some guy PRETENDING to be an actor (because of the Star Wars legacy).

The other actors in the film were alright. At least, they were able to deliver what was expected of them (unlike Christensen..haha!). I don’t want to be mean or anything but that’s just what happened. And I like to think that “the truth will always set us free”. As for Mr. Christensen, I wish you would accept the fact that you’re in dire need of an acting coach. So please, do yourself a favor and get one.

By the way, I think Griffin (Jamie Bell) was interesting. I hope they would make a movie about “Jumper: Griffin’s Story” (another book by Steven Gould). ~_~

HIGH POINT: The part where Griffin stole a car on display in Tokyo. Excellent driving, by the way..

LOW POINT: The scene where Davy (Christensen) left Griffin (Bell) entangled in an electric transformer between a crossfire in Chechnya (or Sierra Leone, I forgot..sorry).
